Shinji Hamano, President of Snyder’s sister company, Hamaken Roofing Company, was in the spotlight at NRCA’s Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas on February 27, 2014. Hamano received the International Cooperation award for his contributions to the roofing industry since 1970.

A long-time friend of NRCA, Shinji Hamano become president of Hamaken Roofing Company in Sapporo, Japan, in 1970. Sapporo is a sister city with Portland, Oregon, here in the U.S., and through the sister city association, Shinji became lifelong friends with Snyder’s Jim King. Hamano was instrumental in the creation of the Japan Roofing Contractors Association (JRCA), and over the years has attended many NRCA conventions. He has also graciously hosted numerous visits by NRCA members to his country.

In July, 2000, Hamano received a special award from the Minister of Construction in Japan, for his efforts in organizing the roofing industry in his country. And later that year, he personally translated the NRCA publication, “100 Years of Roofing in America,” into Japanese. He subsequently did the same thing with the sequel, “125 Years of Roofing in America.”

Congratulations, Shinji! It has been a pleasure working with you over the years and all of us at Snyder wish you the very best as you enter your retirement!
