Lease Crutcher Lewis Construction Company was a Prime Sponsor for the 2nd Annual Obliteride that took place in Seattle, August 9-10, 2014. Snyder’s own Dave Myers and Chris Herbert joined team “Lewis & Friends” in a 50-mile bike ride as a fundraiser for cancer research at the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center. The team was the largest in number, and so far, has raised the most money. Race participants, who rode a combined total of 60,927 miles, have until September 30th to continue their fundraising efforts but, to date, the event has raised $1,726,971.
The mission to obliterate cancer is very personal at Snyder, as two of our office employees have recently battled the disease. Dave Myers, who participated in the race, finished treatment in August for tonsil lymphoma that he was diagnosed with in 2013. He rode in honor of his friend Ken Beard, a previous Snyder employee, who recently passed away after losing his battle with cancer. He also rode for a number of other people he knew who fought the disease. Chris Herbert rode for friends and family members who fought leukemia and prostate cancer, and for his fellow Snyder co-worker, Devri Pieratt, who just completed treatment for breast cancer.
Riders who took the 50-mile route had to raise a minimum of $1,250 each, with one hundred percent of every dollar raised going directly to lifesaving cancer research at Fred Hutch. Dave Myers has raised over $2,000, so far. He has been overwhelmed by the amount of support (both personally and financially) that he’s received from not only friends and family, but other co-workers and construction industry professionals. Both Dave and Chris plan on participating in the event again next year.
