Fully integrated into the landscape of Crossroads Park, in Bellevue, Washington, the new 12,000 square foot Bellevue Youth Theatre accommodates between 100-150 seats, and includes performance space, a box office, dressing rooms, rehearsal space, storage and outdoor theater capabilities. Anticipating a LEED Gold rating, the project has incorporated a number of sustainable building strategies to minimize the construction impact on the existing park and Snyder contributed to several of these efforts.
Snyder’s scope consisted of a completed waterproofing assembly including surface conditioner, a monolithic, reinforced rubberized asphalt membrane, protection course, flashings, extruded polystyrene insulation and drainage course. The system was installed on the walls and the roof of the underground building, as well as at the base of the light trumpets.
Earth and grass now cover our work, providing a natural insulator which saves energy and limits the impact of storm water runoff, as much of the precipitation can be absorbed into the earthen structure, rather than flowing off of a conventional roof and into storm drains. Hydrotech assemblies feature recycled content in the membrane and reduced lifecycle costs due to the product longevity (which also reduces its impact on landfills).
